The Whidbey Playhouse Announces Auditions for the musical, “Annie” 10 -13 March 2011 Star Theatre (Building behind the Main Stage) This musical production offers a variety of roles for all ages (see the character description). All audition candidates interested in learning the production audition songs are encouraged to attend the “Annie Music Workshop” on Tuesday, March 8th from 6:00 -7:00 P.M. Open to 1st through 8th graders All youth attending will have an opportunity to run through the “Orphan” vocal audition excerpts. Tuesday, March 8th from 7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Open to Adults All adults attending will have an opportunity to run through the adult chorus and principal audition excerpts: Thursday, March 10th from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Auditions open to Adults (9th grade on up) Come prepared to sing the audition piece most suited for the role you are auditioning. Friday, March 11th from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Auditions open to Adults (9th grade on up) Come prepared to sing the audition piece most suited for the role you are auditioning. • Adults interested in chorus roles should come prepared to sing a portion of “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here” (measures 93 through 112). • Also, please have prepared “NYC” (measures 183 through 194). • If you are interested in one of the principal characters (see character descriptions), you will be asked to sing portions of specific songs from the show. • A pianist will be provided. • Everyone will be asked to learn some simple movement. • For those interested in speaking roles, you will be asked to perform some readings from the script. • Please provide a picture, and if you have a resume, please feel free to bring it as well. Auditions open to all female youth interested in a principal or chorus role (entering 1st grade through 8th grade) Auditions for youth will be scheduled in group-appointment time slots. Please choose and make your audition appointment for one of these time slots: 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 or 1:00 • Youth should come prepared to sing a portion of “It’s a Hard Knock Life” (Measures 2 through 30. • Youth interested in a principal character (see character descriptions) should come prepared to sing portions of specific songs and read select dialogue. • All children who audition are asked to bring a recent school photo or parents may grant permission to the Whidbey Playhouse Production Team to take a digital photo at audition registration time. Character Descriptions for Annie Annie: Must be able to appear age 11, Female. Energetic and optimistic orphan who never gives up hope that better days are ahead. Sings “Maybe” and “Tomorrow”. (Voice Range: Low A to High F.) Must be able to sing, act, and dance. May be required to dye hair. (Audition Song: “Maybe” measures 29 through 53, callback song: “Tomorrow” measures 51 through the end). Oliver Warbucks: Must be able to appear age 40-65, Male. A powerful billionaire, who always has his mind on business, but has a kind heart looking for someone to love. Sings “Something Was Missing” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You”. (Vocal Range: Baritone to a high F.) Must be able to sing and act. The role involves a very small amount of dance. May be required to SHAVE head. Loyal and intelligent private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She brings Annie and Warbucks together.
