CHICAGO the MUSICAL
Premiering in 1975 and the hit of the 1997 Broadway season, “Chicago” won six Tony Awards and later the Academy Award as Best Picture of the Year.  “Chicago” tells the story of chorine Roxie Hart in roaring twenties Chicago.  She murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie.  Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune and acquittal.  This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse. A dark parable of American justice, “Chicago” is a sexy musical extravaganza that includes several show-stopping numbers such as “All That Jazz”, “Razzle Dazzle” and “Class.”

The musical, directed by K. Sandy O’Brien, will be performed at the Whidbey Playhouse, September 10-October 3, 2010.  For information contact the Playhouse at 360-679-2237, email at office@whidbeyplayhouse.com, or visit the website at www.whidbeyplayhouse.com.
