2020-21 SHOW SEASON
based on the novel by H.G. Wells
Presented by Whidbey Playhouse as a Multi-Camera Virtual Presentation
October 30 and 31, 7:30 pm
Broadcast from New York’s Mercury Theatre in 1938, this infamous radio play, based on the novel by H. G. Wells, had many terrified listeners convinced that an actual alien invasion of Earth was taking place. Adapted by Howard E. Koch, co-writer of Casablanca, and narrated by Orson Welles, this original script detailing the frightening tale of an extraterrestrial takeover brings to life onstage a fully rendered radio play just as it might have been produced by Orson Welles in 1938.
Blurring the lines of reality and fiction, this new virtual production harkens us back to Mercury Theatre on the Air’s 1938 War of the Worlds, an attempted Halloween prank which morphed into pandemonium when listeners missed the broadcast’s introduction and believed that reporters were live in Grovers Mill, New Jersey witnessing a real alien invasion.
Presented virtually October 30 and 31 at 7:30 pm
Due to the pandemic, Whidbey Playhouse is closed to patrons, and currently operating as a broadcast studio only.

The Adams’s have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. THE PRODUCERS February 9 - March 4, 2018
Based on the 1968 film, Mel Brooks’s musical The Producers is a laugh-out-loud, outrageous, crowd-pleasing farce that has been a smash hit since its 2001 debut. Fading Broadway producer Max Bialystock is desperate to get to the top of his profession again, and he finds an unlikely ally in mousy accountant Leo Bloom, who hypothesizes that one could make far more money with a flop of a show than with a hit. Together, the two set out to produce the worst musical ever to hit Broadway, with the worst script, the worst director, and the worst cast they can find; the catch is that they will raise two million dollars to finance the show, and they plan to take the money and head to Rio when the show inevitably closes after just one performance. Too bad for Bialystock & Bloom that, against all odds, the show is a total hit! With no shortage of show stopping musical numbers, and Brooks’ signature humor keeping audiences in stitches, The Producers is definitely far from a flop.
