Whidbey Playhouse Announces an Ambitious 2026–2027 Season

Six productions — from Stephen King to Jane Austen — promise a landmark year for Oak Harbor's beloved community theatre.

Whidbey Playhouse Community Theatre is thrilled to unveil its 2026–2027 show season, a richly varied lineup that spans Broadway musicals, edge-of-your-seat thrillers, classic adaptations, and — for the very first time — a season-closing mystery production whose title will be kept under wraps until August 2026.

The season opens this summer with the energetic youth production of Mean Girls Jr., followed by a sweeping dramatic adaptation of Stephen King's beloved novella, and rounds out the calendar year with the exhilarating dark comedy musical Ride the Cyclone. The new year brings a spine-tingling Ira Levin thriller, a luminous staging of Jane Austen's most celebrated romance, and a season finale shrouded in delicious suspense.

"This season offers something for every theatregoer — from heartbreak to hilarity, from the familiar to the wonderfully unexpected."

The season kicks off with the youth-oriented Mean Girls Jr. — Book by Tina Fey, Music by Jeff Richmond, Lyrics by Nell Benjamin — before shifting gears dramatically with Owen O'Neill and Dave Jones's stage adaptation of Stephen King's The Shawshank Redemption, a story of hope and perseverance that carries a mature content advisory. November brings the dark and witty musical Ride the Cyclone, with music, book, and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell.

The new year opens with Ira Levin's legendary thriller Deathtrap, followed in spring by Kate Hamill's acclaimed adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. The season closes with a production whose identity will be revealed later this summer — a first for the Playhouse, and a testament to the adventurous spirit driving this exceptional year of theatre.

Season tickets are now available and cover all main-stage productions. Mean Girls Jr. is a separate ticketed event. For information on subscriptions, individual tickets, auditions, and volunteer opportunities, visit the theatre's website or contact the box office directly.
