Welcome to Play Day 2023!!

Whidbey Playhouse’s longtime annual Play Day returns for a LIVE event on February 5th! After several years of hosting a scaled-down version of Play Day, the Play Selection Committee is excited to bring back one of the playhouse’s favorite events for our members. Playhouse members (of which you as a valued volunteer are one) are invited to see the exciting finalists for the 2023-2024 season! During the event you will have the opportunity to see sneak previews of the ten mainstage plays and musicals that are under consideration for next season.

If you are new to the Playhouse family-thank you for volunteering. For those of you returning, or those that never left-thank you for your time and support. We cannot survive without the hands and hearts of volunteers.

This event is planned for Sunday evening, February 5, at 6:30 pm on the mainstage. There is no charge to attend, but only current volunteer members will have the opportunity to VOTE for the shows they wish to see in the new season. Each of the plays (5) and musicals (5), plus the off-season summer production under consideration, has a Play Selection Committee member that will have ten minutes to promote the show. These previews may include a song or two, and/or a short cutting from the play. Whatever it is, we promise it will be entertaining!

The shows that are under consideration are The Sound of Music, Cinderella, Chicago, Nuncrackers, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Play On, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Arsenic and Old Lace, Cash on Delivery, and Unnecessary Farce. The summer off-season presentation is Shrek, Jr.

The Play Selection Committee met for several months via Zoom and considered a wide variety of plays and musicals, as well as recruiting prospective directors for the season, before narrowing the field to these musicals and plays. Committee members are Eric George, Sue Riney, Micki Gibson, Erin Tombaugh, Darren and Heather McCoy, Mary Lou Chandler, and Gaye Litka (chair).

We invite you to join us and celebrate being with your fellow Thespians in our community theater! Come hang out with some of your old castmates and/or meet some new theater friends! It’s been a long while since we’ve been able to gather for a “live” Play Day event! Join us and vote for your choices!

We can't wait to see you!
